Buying Off Road Commercial Tires
Though buying tires is often a big and costly decision, it does not have to be a confusing one. Knowing what you need should be your guide in selecting commercial tires for your vehicle, such as the type of tire, its size, and tire mixing.
What type of tire are you looking for? The answer to this depends on the type of vehicle you have and the driving conditions. If you own a 4x4 truck or an SUV, you definitely need off road truck tires. From the name itself, off road tires are used in off road driving. Since your driving will involve the rough road, including hard rocks, mud, and the like, these tires are created with great resistance against puncture when you traverse. The tread pattern provides wide spacing and will help remove mud from the tire tread.
Knowing your tire size can save time and help you make an informed purchase. Your vehicle’s original tire size can be found in your owner’s manual or on the tire label found on the driver’s doorjamb, glove box, or inside the fuel hatch. When looking for off road mud tires, check for the letters M and S for these indicate that the particular tire meets the standards for a mud and snow tire of Rubber Manufacturer’s Association.
When it comes to tire mixing, for 4WD vehicles check your manual on how to do this. Normally, owners do not mix sizes as well as radial and bias-ply tires. Avoid mixing tread patterns for off-road mud tires with all-season tires.
All-season tires are the least used for off road driving for their composition and tread designs are not built to handle off road conditions. However, the advantage in using these tires is that they provide long-lasting tread that are great on wet or dry paved roads. Most stock vehicles come equipped with these tires.
All-terrain truck tires are the most versatile among the off road tires for they are built with off road standards in mind but are modified in certain areas so that they also function well on paved roads. Thus, they can handle everyday driving and light to moderate off road conditions.
Extreme truck tires are best to use in extreme rough road conditions—rock crawling, mud terrain, sand, and even deep snow. These tires have aggressive tread designs extending to the side walls, giant lugs with deep spaces, and toughened sidewall construction so that the tires can get a grip on any surface while maintaining durability during driving. Extreme truck mud tires are available in radial or bias ply, although the ideal is the low air pressure bias ply, which allows the tread to conform to whatever surface for increased traction. However, when driving on highways, these tires do not produce very much mileage, and can be very noisy. Moreover, you'll have to get used to a bumpy ride when you use them on the streets.
Searching for the perfect commercial tires can be easy if you know what to look for. Keep these tips in mind the next time you're shopping for cheap new tires.
